Memjet has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Hewlett-Packard (HP), claiming that the manufacturer has copied Memjet’s page-wide waterfall printhead technology, protected under a series of eight patents. According to a Memjet release, HP has employed this technology in its Pro X generation of office printers, the T-Series commercial presses, and PageWide XL series, and intends to use the technology in its future wide-format and 3D offerings. Memjet seeks to forbid HP from this allegedly unauthorized use, as well as to recover damages resulting from the sales of the products that employ the patented technique.

Designed to be more energy efficient and mechanically sound, Memjet’s waterfall printheads release millions of ink drops per second, reportedly require less warm-up time, and can print in a single pass.
