For optimal adhesion, the initial generation of mild-solvent inks didn't rely on heaters, but rather required “treated” media that were about 50% less expensive than the coated vinyls used with aqueous inks, but still about 50% more expensive than the uncoated materials that could be used with traditional solvent-based inks.
