L&P Introduces Virtu RS35

L&P has introduced the Virtu RS35, a 138-in. flatbed/roll-to-roll printer developed in conjunction with Spuhl AG (www.spuhl.ch) in Switzerland. Designed for high speed and high production, the printer is compatible with media up to 3.9-in. thick. It features a newly engineered vacuum table with more than 30 controllable vacuum zones, and allows users to align substrates in the lateral edge zones with increased vacuum.

Complete with 36 Spectra printheads with 128 jets/head, the Virtu RS35 sports a new UV-curable ink system that makes it possible to switch from 4 to 6 colors (CMYKcm or CMYK+2W or spot). Its anti-sedimentation system controls ink consistency in special colors, such as white. It also has 6-l ink tanks that are refillable on-the-fly, an ink-level monitoring system, and a new ink-rinsing device that cleans the ink-feed and can rinse the ink head jets.

In addition, the printer is also able to switch to textile inks — the same textile inksets used by the Vurtu72 and Virtu36 — and print onto rollfed fabrics. The printer is compatible with a wide range of rolled and rigid media, including boards, wood, metal, and more.

The Virtu RS35 offers printing resolutions up to 1200 true addressable dpi. The machine offers three print modes and reaches print speeds of 1615 sq ft/hr in 1-pass, 300-dpi, 4-color mode.

Spuhl had previously released the 98-in. Virtu RS25, which offers similar specs.

The Vurtu RS35 will begin shipping in Q4 2006, the company reports.
