In 1998, Raster Graphics introduced the first lower-cost inkjet printer to use solvent-based ink–the Arizona? 180 “digital screen press.” Raster Graphics initially expected the Arizona to appeal primarily to low- to mid-sized sign shops. Instead, the Arizona was an immediate hit with prospective buyers of superwide inkjet printers, many of whom opted to buy one or two Arizonas for less than the price of one grand-format printer. Even though they were only 54 in. wide, the first Arizonas were regarded as the first “baby grands” because they were the first inkjet printers priced under $100,000 that could output onto lower-priced, uncoated vinyls.
