Tom Reid, executive vice president of Catalina Graphic Films and president of Coated Solutions, passed away on March 10, 2011, after a sudden, brief bout with pancreatic cancer. Born October 15, 1953 in Gainesville, Georgia, he leaves behind his beloved wife Becky, his Mom, Ms. Mamie Reid, his son Patrick, his younger brother Darrell, step-daughters Melissa and Christy, and step-son Scott.

Reid began his career in the self-adhesive label industry with companies such as, Avery and MacTac. He later served as president and CEO of Sihl USA, the North American operating company of papermaker Sihl AG of Zurich, Switzerland. His duties in that position included managing and directing Sihl’s North American operations in San Jose, California, and Binghamton, New York.

Until his passing, Reid divided his time between his responsibilities as executive vice president at Catalina Graphic Films in Calabasas Hills, and with his own consulting firm, Coated Solutions, in Westlake Village. As president of Coated Solutions, he performed insightful market research studies and delivered vital consulting services to the paper industry. He held various sales, marketing and corporate management positions throughout the years, giving him a broad perspective and understanding of these markets and their evolution into the current digital world.

“For all who knew him, Tom was a dear and reliable friend, always true to his word and always fair in business dealings,” says Art Diamond of Diamond Research Corporation. “His close friends knew him as a man with a positive attitude and a warm heart. A friend of Tom had a friend for life. His sudden departure comes as a shock to us all. It brings great sorrow to friends and family alike.

“He was well known throughout the imaging industry for his keen management and administrative skills, always performing with integrity. Tom Reid had a knack for rapidly analyzing complex management issues and proposing clever, often innovative, solutions. “

Services will be held in Atlanta on Saturday, March 26, at the MacDonald & Son Funeral Home (mcdonaldandson.com). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org or 800/ACS-2345) or L.I.F.E. Animal Rescue (lifeanimalrescue.org).
