HP has expanded its Designjet line with the new Designjet Z6100, available in 42- and 60-in. models. Designed for shops printing photographic and fine-art applications, the Z6100 can also tackle point-of-purchase displays, exhibition graphics, and short-term outdoor signage, as well as CAD and GIS applications.

Featuring HP Double Swath technology, the Z6100’s dual set of HP 91 printheads (8 heads total) image a print swath up to 1.8 in., deliver a high firing frequency, generate small drop sizes (4 and 6 pl depending on color), and produce fine lines as small as 0.067 mm wide. The 8-color Z6100 utilizes Vivera inks (CMYcm, light gray, matte black, and photo black) in 775-ml cartridges.

Throughput ranges from a top speed of 1134 sq ft/hr on plain paper to 98 sq ft/hr on glossy paper in best mode (2400 x 1200 dpi). The new HP Optical Media Advance Sensor reduces banding at high print speeds and improves paper advance, enabling the printer to run longer at higher speeds across various conditions.

The Z6100 also features HP DreamColor Technologies: HP Professional Pantone emulation, HP’s closed-loop color calibration, and automatic ICC profiling with the HP embedded spectrophotometer and software. Additionally, the optional HP Advanced Profiling System allows users to edit and modify existing profiles as well as create RGB profiles. The Designjet Z6100 can handle media up to 430 gsm and 22-mil thick. The combination of inks and media offers water-resistance and fade-resistance for more than 200 yr.

Options include additional spindles for easy media swapping, dual-mode take-up reel, media bin, user maintenance kit, and more. A PostScript model is also available and includes integrated Adobe PostScript hardware RIP and allows for direct file submission of PostScript, EPS, and PDF files.

Price: $9995 to $18,500.
