For reprographic firms, copy shops, and government offices seeking an easy way to scan and copy posters, engineering drawings, satellite photos, maps, and other wide-format documents, HP offers the Designjet 815mfp. The multifunction device combines a wide-format scanner, a wide-format printer, a front-panel PC, keyboard, and software in a limited amount of floorspace.

The scanner handles originals up to 43-in. wide and 0.6-in. thick at speeds of up to 1.5 in./sec in color and resolutions of up to 2400 dpi with 24 bit color. The graphical touchscreen display enables untrained users to scan, print, and copy large-format documents. The printer is a four-color, 42-in. wide unit that can output at resolutions of 2400 x 1200 dpi.

Current owners of Designjet printers can create their own integrated scan/print/copy systems by networking the HP Designjet Scanner 4200 to their existing HP Designjet 500/800/1000/5000 series printers. The estimated street price of the complete HP Designjet 815mfp is $20,995. Or, the Designjet Scanner 4200 can be purchased separately for about $17,995. (Hewlett-Packard: www.designjet.hp.com)
