Hasselblad Debuts Flextight X1 And X5 Scanners

Both new units feature "virtual-drum"? design.

Hasselblad has introduced the Flextight X1 and the Flextight X5 high-end film scanners, which are designed for professional photographers and for use in production settings. These two new scanners replace all former Flextight scanners in the Hasselblad line-up (the 646, 848, and 949, as well as the 343, which was discontinued in mid-2006).

Both scanners are built around the same foundation, and both feature the Flextight “virtual drum” design, utilizing a vertical optical system that allows for glassless scanning. The primary difference is in the scanning speed: The X1 can scan 35mm originals at an optical resolution of 6300 dpi at a rate of 60 MB/min, while the X5 can scan 35mm originals at 8000 dpi at a rate of 300 MB/min.

The scanners offer a 3 x 8000 CCD sensor and 16-bit (per channel) color depth. Additional common features include: automatic frame detection, batch-scanning capabilities, automatic focus and calibration, hard- and/or software-based auto dust removal, and an Auto Scan button that enables one-touch scanning. The scanners also offer a Flexible File Format (3F) workflow, allowing for easy and efficient file manipulation.

In addition to providing a higher resolution and scan speed, the X5 also offers an A4 reflective scanning option, as well as batch and slide feeder compatibility.

MSRP: $12,995 for Flextight X1; $19,995 for Flextight X5. The X1 can be upgraded in the field to the X5 for approximately $7000.
