Raster Printers debuted its new Daytona H700UV at SGIA in Orlando. Suitable for indoor and outdoor graphics, the 72-in. flatbed UV-curable printer features eight or 10 Toshiba Tech CA4 grayscale printheads. The grayscale heads (318 nozzles each) offer eight drop sizes ranging from 6 to 42 pl that create a true resolution of 1200 dpi.

Speeds for the H700UV reach 320 sq ft/hr in four-color Billboard mode (300 dpi and eight gray levels) and 120 sq ft/hr in 600-dpi HQ mode with four gray levels. The standard eight-pass, four-gray level Production mode produces 600-dpi at 240 sq ft/hr.

Available in CMYK and the optional CMYKW configuration, the white-ink option includes two printheads. The white ink can be used for spot color as well as under and over printing.

The UV inks are cured with dual Mercury lamps, allowing for bi-directional printing on various substrates. The leading lamp can be shuttered to minimize heat generation; in addition, each lamp has adjustable power settings.

The H700UV is capable of handling both roll and rigid media up to 1.8-in. thick and weighing as much as 100 lb; a vacuum-belt transport system controls the feeding of media for accurate dot registration. The H700 also includes an automated head-cleaning system with a non-contact nozzle-plate vacuuming system.

The complete Daytona H700 system includes the printer; a high-speed RIP station (a high-end PC with Windows XP, running the Onyx WorkStation); a starter kit with inks; installation; training and a one-year warranty for $79,995 for the CMYK x 2 model and $84,995 for the 10-printhead CMYKW x 2 model.
