For shops that don't want to invest in multiple inkjets and vinyl cutters, Graphtec offers the versatile SignJet Pro JX2000A series. Available in 42- and 60-in. widths, the print/cut devices combine eight-printhead, 600-dpi thermal inkjet printing with cutting-plotter technology to help graphics companies expand the range of signs and graphics that can be produced on a single machine. For example, the SignJet Pro JX2000A can produce full-color, contour-cut signs, short-run custom decals, and creative exhibit and display graphics.

The updated SignJet Pro models feature a more user-friendly ink-supply system with a simplified ink-priming process. A built-in printhead registration routine automatically calibrates the inter-printhead alignments for optimum print quality after the printheads are replaced. The JX2000A's onboard accuracy sensors can detect a clogged printhead nozzle and automatically attempt to unclog it by engaging the printhead cleaning cycle. In the event that the clogged nozzle has been determined unrecoverable, the JX2000A will ensure a continuous quality print by automatically allocating a spare nozzle.

The eight printheads and ink lines enable the SignJet Pro JX200A to be used with either two sets of four-color dye inks or pigmented inks for faster throughput, or one four-color set of dye and one four-color set of pigmented inks for fast switchover from short-term indoor signage to longer-term outdoor applications. And with Graphtec's user-friendly control panel, the switch can be done on the fly.

To ensure graphics that have been laminated or clearcoated are accurately aligned for cutting, the JX200A uses a precision photo sensor system to automatically detect registration marks printed along the sides of an image. The SignJet Pro will automatically compensate for any media expansion/contraction and misalignment that may have occurred during laminating or clearcoating.

To quickly cut and trim printed posters, an onboard perforating system offer 10 types of perforations. The media feed system enables smooth feeding and tracking of soft and thin materials such as fabrics and lightweight specialty papers. A bidirectional media rewinder/roll take-up system is an option available for overnight-unattended printing of long jobs. An extra roll media-supply system makes it easy to switch between different types of materials.

Western Graphtec, a wholly owned subsidiary of Graphtec Corp. of Yokohama, Japan, is offering the 42-in. JX2100A for a base price of $13,995 and the 60-in. JX2150A for $15,995; both come with a one-year onsite warranty. (Western Graphtec: www.graphtecusa.com)
