Versatility requirements. Pat Ryan, who heads up Seiko Infotech's US operations, says buyers first need to decide if they want a general-purpose wide-format inkjet or a printer for a specific application (e.g. fabric banners, backlit films, etc.). First-time buyers tend to opt for lower-priced, general-purpose devices that can do a wider variety of tasks, but at slower speeds. More seasoned buyers tend to choose printers that offer higher productivity, lower cost of materials, or specific improvements in the production of certain types of graphics: “No printer is best at everything, which is why we have such a wide selection of inkjet printers from which to choose.”
