Fine-Art Metals from Booksmart Studio

Booksmart Studio’s inkjet-printable Fine Art Metals, designed for fine-art applications, are made of aluminum and gold and coated with an inkjet-receptive clear gloss. The metals comprising aluminum are available in Brushed Silver, Matte Silver, Satin Silver, and Satin White finishes; the gold metals are available with a Satin Gold finish.

All of the metals are produced in a range of sheet sizes, from 8.5 x 11 in. to 20 x 60 in, and in thicknesses of .005, .012, and .016 in. Printers having a “straight through” substrate path can be used with the .005, .012, and .016 in. metals; printers with a “J-curve” substrate path-typically, but not always found in smaller printers such as the Epson Stylus Pro 2200 and Canon imageProGraf iPF5000-are restricted to using the .005 in.-thick metals. Clearcoating is necessary after printing, the company reports.

The Fine Art Metals come in packages of 5 or 10 sheets. Adhesive backing for mounting is included with the metals (optional on certain sizes).

Price varies depending upon number of sheets, sheet size, and type of metal. A Metal Sampler package of five sheets (one each of .012-in. Matte Silver, Satin Silver, Satin Gold, and Satin White, and one .016-in. Brushed Silver) is available for $47.25 (8.5 x 11 in.) and $49 (8.26 x 11.7 in.).
