StudioPrint? is the newest product from Ergosoft, the Switzerland-based developer of print-management software for high-end creative professionals. The non-PostScript software provides photographers and fine-art printmakers with some of the workflow tools needed to enhance image quality, color accuracy, and print volumes.

For example, the software's density calibration and ink-limiting features can optimize color gamuts, tonal gradations, the purity of highlights, and shadow detail, while conserving the use of ink and media. For wide-gamut printing, it can support up to eight separate color channels.

The software is geared for optimal reproduction of a wide assortment of full-color, black-and-white, or tinted monochromatic images. StudioPrint supports Quad Black monochromatic printing on inkjets that can use four densities of black inks, and Tri Black printing on inkjets with six printheads.

The software features sophisticated color-transformation tools and multiple screening algorithms, include Epson's proprietary screening algorithm. An open-architecture, ICC-based color-management module can be used to generate and apply ICC profiles. User-friendly color-corrections tools are also included for fast and efficient color tweaks.

Production features include the ability to operate multiple printers as well as nest, rotate, duplicate, and scale images. StudioPrint also permits image tiling, for the effortless creation of Diptychs and Triptychs. An onboard Image Album feature can be used to recall and output previously printed images.

StudioPrint supports most models of piezo, variable-droplet inkjets, including popular models from Epson, Roland DGA, and Mimaki. StudioPrint is currently available for use with Windows XP, 2000, NT and ME and sells for $2300 for the large-format version and $1300 for use with inkjet printers up to 24 in. wide.
