The latest in EFI’s QS family of printers is the Vutek QS3200r roll-to-roll UV-curable printer. Imaging flexible media up to 126-in. wide and 3-mm thick, this heavy-duty machine is designed for 24/7 operation.

Armed with 24 Seiko printheads with 1536 nozzles/color, the QS3200r produces a 30-pl drop and features a top speed of 1850 sq ft/hr at 1080-dpi resolution with High Definition Print (HDP) technology. HDP combines 8-color printing, 1080-dpi resolution, Vutek smoothing, optimized bi-directional printing mode, and the EFI Fiery XF RIP. The printer also images in 540-dpi resolution (450 to 900 sq ft/hr in 8-color mode) and 1080-dpi resolution (900 to 1850 sq ft/hr in Fast-4 mode).

The QS3200r uses Vutek QS Series r UV inks and offers 8-color (CMYKcmyk) and Fast-4 (CMYK x 2) inkset options; customers can switch between Fast-4 and 8-color printing. The company reports that these inks are highly pliable-good for imaging onto flexible media and for use with applications involving complex curves such as vehicle wraps and kiosks.

Compatible with fabric, backlit films, banners, adhesive-based vinyl, and static cling, the new QS printer can accommodate multiple rolls and clearly print type as small as 4 pt. In addition, it has an integrated mesh unit built into the platen so waste ink can be collected in a tray. Users choose the EFI Fiery XF Production RIP or alternative Colorburst RIP. Optional equipment includes a heavy-duty unwinder for difficult materials.

Price of the QS3200r: $399,000.

EFI also has produced a new inkset for its Vutek 3360-UltraTex, a solvent-based dye-sublimation ink. This ink is designed to offer good draping qualities, is wash-resistant and dryer resilient, and can be printed on reusable indoor/outdoor graphics. The ink is compatible with direct-printing onto textiles or transfer printing onto transfer paper.

And, the company has newly badged its Vutek 3360 dual ink-delivery system, which was first shown at SGIA last year. Now dubbed Fusion, the optional ink-delivery system enables users to changeover between traditional solvent and dye-sublimation inksets in minutes-and without flushing the entire system. The key is that there are two separate sets of ink tanks with separate ink lines. Fusion can be field upgraded onto any Vutek UltraVu II 3360 or later printer.
