Attendees of the Dscoop conference in San Antonio April 14-16 will have the opportunity to explore finishing technologies from nearly 20 exhibitors as part of the Dscoop Solutions Showcase.

“When making decisions about digital printing investments, selection or upgrading of finishing equipment can often be overlooked,” says Ed Wiegand, Dscoop board member and conference committee member, in a release. It’s a gap conference organizers hope to fill with exhibits and education from a variety of suppliers and manufacturers, a number of whom offer advice in the same release for PSPs looking to expand their finishing capabilities.

“Because digital presses can seamlessly print variable content and produce variably formatted products, finishing solutions must have the automation and workflow controls to efficiently produce these varied products,” says Andy Fetherman, director of digital solutions at Müller Martini. “Finishing solutions must also be able to handle a wide range of substrate types as digital print vendors continue to broaden their portfolios of supported media.” He also lists three key considerations: scalability, sophisticated workflow, and commercial quality.

Susan Corwin, marketing manager at Rollem International, echoes Fetherman’s emphasis on workflow automation. “We see the direction in finishing for digital print continue to shift toward touchless, automated processes with nearline and inline finishing configurations. We also see successful print service providers bringing their binding and finishing processes in house to eliminate outsourcing and gain control over quality and turnaround times.”
