Creating a Convertible Colorama

New exhibition celebrates iconic Kodak panoramas.

From 1950 until 1990, Kodak Coloramas were familiar to millions of commuters in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. The panoramic 18 x 60-foot Coloramas presented an idealized view of life in 20th-century America while also promoting photography.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic photographs, the George Eastman House International Museum (eastmanhouse.org) has created an exhibition titled, “Colorama.” Making its debut in Rochester, New York this summer, the exhibit comprises 36 inkjet Colorama reproductions, most measuring 18 x 60 and 23 x 80 inches.

The prints were produced by Keystone Film Productions/Net/W Imagery (keystonefilm.com), with Epson Stylus Pro 9800 printers and Ultrachrome K3 inks onto InteliCoat Magiclée Siena paper and then mounted to United Industries’ Ultra Board and framed.
