Corbis Partners with Fratelli Alinari

Offers greater access to world-class fine art and historical photos

Corbis is partnering with the Fratelli Alinari photographic archives to dramatically increase access to thousands of world-class fine art images and historical photography.

Alinari's collection includes masterpieces from Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and other master artists as well as 19th-century photographs from Italy and throughout Europe.

Fratelli Alinari was founded in 1852 and has more than 3.5 million photographs. Alinari has permission to license photographic reproductions of art owned by the Italian State and represents all major international art museums, including the Uffizi in Florence, the Louvre in Paris, and the Ermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia. Alinari has digitized more than 250,000 images.

Corbis and Allinari plan to offer educational institutions and other organizations the ability to research and use materials from both of their collections. Using a co-branded website, the program will make it possible for teachers and students to retrieve images needed for study outlines, exams, research papers, and dissertations.
