Corbis has acquired Beateworks, a California-based image-licensing company that provides high-end interior images. The latter company's brands include: Beateworks, a specialty rights-managed collection of interior and architectural images; InsideOutPix, a royalty-free collection comprising expressions of living inside and outside the home; and Beateworks@home, which is a feature-story segment of celebrity homes.

“Over the last few years, the At-Home segment has shown a significant growth rate as consumers view their homes as a symbol of their identity and self expression,” says Beate Chelette, CEO/president of Beateworks, who founded the company in 1993. “The trend toward living well has helped us tremendously–only within the last few years has this segment virtually exploded, and we were one of the first to recognize this trend, putting us in front of the market. In order to fulfill the increasing demand for the imagery, I had to look to Corbis to take the collections to the next level.”

The acquisition, says Corbis, will advance its strategy to aggressively grow its royalty-free and rights-managed lines of business in categories that matter most to commercial clients. “Based on trend research and market data, we understand the demand for images of home interiors and living well,” says Steve Davis, Corbis president and CEO. “Whether it's a photo of model Naomi Campbell preparing Jamaican food on her patio, or actress Julianne Moore with her children in her New York apartment, the Beateworks collections are full of rich home images.”

In 2006, Corbis will integrate the Beateworks collections into its media library, website, global sales, and marketing programs to offer comprehensive access to the full range of Corbis and Beateworks imagery and services, the company reports.
