Datacolor, whose ColorVision business unit produces the Spyder2 and ColorPlus line of color-management tools as well as other products, has announced that its co-marketing relationship with Pantone has been terminated. Datacolor will now directly control the parts of distribution previously managed by Pantone.

“Although we've had a productive relationship with Pantone, our focus on digital as opposed to analog color management, and our desire to provide greater flexibility for our distributors dictates this change,” says Brian Levey, vice president for ColorVision.

Adds Terry Downes, Datacolor president and CEO: “We've also felt that mingling our digital color-management solutions with Pantone's analog products conflicts with our vision for digitally managed color. With explosive growth and market dominance of our Spyder products, and entrance into new markets”?we believe now is the right time to make this change.”
