EFI has launched Colorproof eXpress, an entry-level, ICC-compliant software RIP for proofing on inkjet, laser, and LED printers.

Targeted at prepress houses, creative professionals, graphic designers, small agencies, and print buyers, Colorproof eXpress focuses on ease-of-use and provides users with various benefits, including: pre-defined print modes for proofing, photo, and black-and-white printing; one-click spot-color handling; definition of color and printing presets; save/load of application environment; remote job-processing and printing capabilities; adjustable speed settings plus manual and automatic nesting capabilities; and an 'Everyday work mode'-a menu display of the most commonly used tasks for daily use.

The RIP supports open standards for easy integration into open standards-based workflows. It features multi-color profile support of up to seven channels and device link profile support (enabling users to provide quick and efficient validation printing and contract proofing) as well as spot-color libraries DIC, HKS, Pantone, and Toyo, plus Adobe CPSI 3017 and Ugra/Fogra media wedges v2.2 and v3.0. The software also offers the option of running on the latest versions of either Mac OS X or Windows platforms.

In addition, EFI has announced:

* EFI JDF Connector: An add-on module for EFI's XF server, the Connector enables JDF/JMF-based connectivity in a JDF workflow, executing the JDF of an incoming JDF job by initiating the conversion of the JDF content into XF-specific code. The conversion itself is done by the XF Server; the JDF Connector then translates the notifications sent by the XF Server back into JMF messages and sends it back to the sender of the JDF. 'A customer can initiate a print job directly from an MIS solution, such as PrintSmith,' says Stefan Spiegel, general manager, EFI Graphic Arts Solutions, 'and the job will be sent to the XF product including the JDF ticket, which contains all the relevant information to start the processing and printing process in XF. At the same time, the job status in XF will be communicated back to the front-end system, allowing the sender to check the job status at anytime.”

* Hagen OA 10.1: The latest version of the company's Hagen OA print-management system will feature workflow and mailing enhancements, tighter integration to other EFI solutions, and support for Microsoft SQL Server. Hagen 10.1 includes a new “Express Jobs” workflow that enables rapid order entry and processing, and includes special material-posting and pre-invoice features.

* JDF certification: The company reports that its Hagen and Prograph management systems have each received JDF certification from PIA/GATF. Prograph and Hagen are among the first management systems to pass the JDF Job Definition Format testing process by PIA/GATF, the official certification body for CIP4 (the International Cooperation for the Integration of the Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress).

* PPML certification: EFI’s Fiery digital-print servers have passed PPML (Personalized Print Markup Language) testing from the Print on Demand Initiative (PODi). The certification ensures that Fiery customers have the highest possible levels of throughput and productivity when printing personalized material on demand at high volume.
