Carl Zeiss has added the Zeiss Distagon T* 2/28 to its line of SLR lenses for analog and digital 35-mm SLRs. Designed for commercial, landscape, and fine-art photographers, the high-speed, wide-angle lens is available in two versions: Distagon T* 2/28 ZF for cameras with the F-bayonet mount and the Distagon T* 2/28 ZK for cameras using a K-bayonet mount.

The lens features an aperture range of f/2-f/22 and a 28.5-mm focal length, and the high speed of the lens makes it well suited for taking pictures indoors under natural light or low-light conditions, the company reports. The fast aperture also allows photographers to use the depth-of-field to separate the subject from the background at full aperture without causing total background blur, achieving a strong 3-D effect. Equipped with a manual focus, the lens uses floating elements to ensure high image quality in both the close-up range as well as at longer distances.
