Canon has announced that it will begin selling the imagePROGRAF W8400 and W6400 in Japan only. Although Canon confirms these products eventually will be rolled out globally, a firm schedule has yet to be decided.

The 44-in. W8400 and the 24-in. W6400 feature a 1-in. wide printhead with 7680 ink nozzles, 4-picoliter droplets, and print speeds up to 2.2 min/page for a 33 x 46-in. page. Canon reports that its new image processor makes brighter photos and sharper P-O-P graphics.
The printers use Canon Pg pigment-based inks and produce images that are light-fast and water resistant with color stability. The W8400 and W6400 also allow the user to interchange photo black and matte black for printing on a wide variety of media (photo black on glossy media for photos and poster; and matte black on matte media for art and newspaper proofs).

In addition, the printer provides improved usability with its output plug-in for Photoshop. The printers also come with Canon's new PosterArtist 3 (Windows-compatible) for easy poster creation. (Canon: www.canon.co.jp)
