Canon Debuts imageProGraf iPF8000

Rounding out its large-format 12-color line of printers, Canon introduced the new 44-in. imageProGraf iPF8000. Designed for printing fine art and photography, the iPF8000 images with 4-pl ink droplets to produce graphics with resolutions as high as 2400 x 1200 dpi.

Each of the two Canon PF-02 printheads supports 6 colors and has 2560 nozzles/color for a total of 30,720 nozzles. The printheads also feature a system that can detect and compensate for non-firing nozzles.

Utilizing Canon”?s Lucia aqueous pigment inks, it offers 12-color inks (CMYKRGB Gray, photo gray, photo c, photo m, matte black). Like its sister products (17-in. imageProGraf iPF5000 and 60-in. iPF9000), the iPF8000 loads all 12 ink tanks at once, switching automatically between regular black and matte black inks to eliminate wasted ink and downtime due to swapping out ink tanks. Printers are shipped with 330-ml ink cartridges; users have the option of using 700-ml cartridges to optimize efficiency.

Similar in almost every way to the larger imageProGraf iPF9000, except the 8000 does not have a hard drive, it includes the Canon L-COA (large-format printer common architecture) high-speed processor which directs the printing process. The L-COA helps the printer achieve print speeds of less than 7 min for 33.1 x 46.8-in. (A0) size prints in 1200 x 1200-dpi resolution.

In addition, the imageProGraf iPF8000 ships with a print driver and plug-in for PhotoShop for Mac and PC, PosterArtist (Windows only) for sign and poster creation, and Digital Photo Print Pro (Windows only) for digital photo correction and layout. The print driver includes a new feature”?Free Layout”?which allows users to layout images from various applications to maximize media usage. No RIP is included, but several third-party RIPs are compatible, including the EFI Fiery and ColorProof XF for Canon.
