Caldera RIP Version 7.22 Debuts

Wide-format RIP solution upgraded.

Caldera Graphics has launched version 7.22 of its wide-format RIP solution. Now installable on Kubuntu 7.04 (an easier-to-use, more stable, and universally adopted Linux system, Caldera reports), the RIP's new features include:

* A “flip-flop” Tiling option, which prints all tiles located on odd columns with a 180? rotation in order to ensure print reliability and eliminate forms of banding;

* The measurement data (transition, linearization, or profiling) is now saved in the calibration files (.ppi, .ppc and .icc files) and in the Media Patches. A new option now allows the user to read the measurement back from the calibration files.

* All printer drivers are now installable with software patches (downloadable from Caldera's ftp site).

The RIP now supports new printers from 15 manufacturers (see company website for a complete list), as well as the Roland GX series of cutters. In addition it supports the Barbieri SpectroSwing automatic spectrophotometer; the RIP's EasyMedia feature supports all of the device's capabilities, including auto-positioning and “contact-less” reading.

In addition, the company has released the Caldera Swing, an automatic color-calibration device produced in partnership with Barbieri. A solution for the linearization and profiling of wide-format and photographic output devices, the Swing can provide spectral measurements of reflective and transmissive (backlit, film) flexible materials with a thickness up to 0.7mm. It's capable of taking automatic, spot, and density measurements. Target markets for the device, the company reports, are aqueous and solvent large-format inkjet printers, entry to mid-range UV-flatbed printers, packaging, proofing, fine-art printing, and prepress.
