Fineline Graphics' aviation graphics take off

Fineline Graphics of Denver produced the graphics for this DeHavilland Twin Otter Vistaliner aircraft for Nature Air, based in San Jose, Costa Rica. Fineline has executed the graphics for three of Nature Air's fleet, and more are in the works.

The project was brought to Fineline by Dan Arensmeier of Baum, Arensmeier and Talent Inc., a Denver design firm. Arensmeier's own original oil paintings were scanned and reproduced onto Avery 2-mil 1005EZ cast vinyl film with Fineline's Nur Blueboard printer.

“The Avery material was used for this application because of the large amount of rivets and corrugations on the rudder, as well as the 5-year removability of the film,” says Ewen Rees, Fineline's digital project manager. And because the DeHavilland has a cruising speed of only 140 knots and a low ceiling, he adds, specialized aviation films were not necessary.

The graphics were then clearcoated and premasked for installation. Installer Tregg Young flew to Costa Rica to install the graphics and instruct Nature Air employees on how to install graphics on future planes.

“The paint schemes produced by Fineline for NatureAir have been an important component of branding the airline, which is the fastest-growing company in Costa Rica,” says Rees.

Fineline also produces graphics for Frontier Airlines, as well as a variety of other clients. In addition to its Nur Blueboard, the company has a 3M 9512 electrostatic printer and has recently purchased two new iQue printers”?an 11-ft iQue 3380 and a 6-ft iQue 180.
