Adorned Doors

Graphics inspire creativity on an art teacher's classroom door.

During the weeks leading up to the start of a newmctaggart door school year, elementary school teachers typically spend many hours (and their own money) decorating their classrooms to create an inviting learning environment for their students. Art teacher Elena McTaggart has a unique design tool at her disposal: the wide-format printers at her family’s business, The Graphix Spot.

warholElena spends her summers working at the shop, alongside her husband, Matthew McTaggart, owner/founder of the Budd Lake, New Jersey-based PSP that specializes in large-format graphics and installations. For the last four years, the McTaggarts have designed and printed a unique vinyl door wrap to brighten up the entrance to the art room. Decorated doors have included vinyl made to look like paint splotches; an interactive black and white design that encouraged students to color in the blank spots; modern geometric shapes; and an homage to Andy Warhol. All of the graphics were printed with a Mutoh ValueJet 1624 onto 3M Controltac Print Film 40c with Orafol Oraguard 210 laminate.
