Adobe Systems has released an upgraded version of Photoshop Lightroom, the application for importing, processing, managing, and showcasing large volumes of digital photographs. Photoshop Lightroom 2 is designed to simplify and streamline a photographer’s workflow.

New and improved features include: a local adjustment brush that allows users to target a specific area of a photo for dodging, burning, and other local adjustments; 64-bit processing support; flexible printing packages to allow for printing multiple image sizes on one or many pages; improved organizational tools and filters; improved non-destructive photo-editing; streamlined Photoshop CS3 integration; multiple monitor support; extensible architecture which allows users to transfer images to sharing sites and photo labs; photo management across multiple drives; enhanced batch processing; and improved output sharpening of photographs.

Adobe also has created default camera profiles available for download for the raw-processing workflow that closely emulate the visual look that photographers are used to seeing on their camera, while also providing the ability to create highly customized profiles.

Price: $299; $99 for upgrade for current Lightroom users.
