Adobe Systems has announced Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 for Windows, an upgrade to the company's entry-level software for photo manipulation. Newly added Photoshop Elements features include:

* Scene Cleaner, based on Adobe's Photomerge technology, which allows users to simply 'brush away' unwanted subjects.

* Smart Brush, to help users apply effects to a specific area of a photo with a single stroke, making it a snap to improve lighting and add rich textures with access to more than 50 sophisticated effects.

* Quick Fix tools that address common editing tasks, such as whitening teeth or brightening blue skies.

* A Portrait Shot filter softens surfaces while retaining edges and details.

Price of Photoshop Elements 7: $99.99. A bundled package of Photoshop Elements 7 with Adobe Premiere Elements 7, the company's video-editing software, is available for $149.99.

Membership is offered at two levels: Basic1, which is free and includes 5GB of storage, remote access to photos and videos and online photo sharing; and Plus2, which provides 20 GB of storage as well as themed templates and creative tutorials delivered on a regular basis, plus automatic online backup ($49.99). Photoshop.com membership is available in the US only.
