For golf's Ryder Cup tournament, which got underway September 16
at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Detroit, Agio Imaging of
Kalamazoo, MI, produced a 10 x 364-ft historical timeline of the
Ryder Cup Matches. The vinyl print, just one of a series of projects
Agio took on for the event, was installed on a large wall constructed
to help regulate pedestrian traffic.

The PGA of America provided Agio with the relevant images and
text. When digital files were not provided, Agio executed some scans
in house on its flatbed Linoscan 1450. The entire project was
assembled in Photoshop, and the Timeline Wall, as it became known,
underwent approximately 100 hours of graphic production, says Agio's
Brandon Balentine, including concept work, retouching, color
correcting, etc.

From those files, Agio built a low-resolution composite to
facilitate client proofing and design conception. Once it had
received thumbs up on the design, Agio used the low-resolution
composite as a template. The final panels, each ranging in size from
40 to 60 ft, were output on the shop's Vutek UltraVu 5300 solvent
printer at 150 dpi, onto UltraFlex Normandy Pro vinyl, a 13-oz white
matte vinyl. Total printer time: 18 hours.

Agio's Ryder Cup work also included light-pole banners, graphics
for tents and walls, signage, and more. Agio was in discussions with
Ryder Cup officials for 2 years to garner the contract, and the
result was well worth it: The overall job was the third-largest
contract in the company's 4-year history, generating $200,000. (Agio
